FIRES.

AUCKLAND, February 19.

A ten-roomed boarding-house in Wakefield street, occupied by Mr Herdaon, was destroyed by fire at 2 a.m. Mrs Herdson and a lady lodger escaped by sliding down a bed quilt, and were caught by bystanders on the pavement outside. The house was destroyed, also much of the furniture, whioh was insured in tftie Royal Office for £2OO. NAPIER, February 19.

Mr F. Nugent's store and telegraph office at Maraekakaho was totally destroyed by fire yesterday morning.,. Insurances: On the v building, £150; on the contents, £7oo J both in the National. Half the total amount, is reinsured with the Liverpool and London' and Globe.
