BRIEF MENTION.
Only formal business was transacted by the Caversham Borough Council last night. The mayor (Mr Ruston) was appointed delegate to the weekly half-holiday conference. The ‘Cromwell Argus’ hears that Mr Henry Symes, of Alexandra, has patented an important bicycle improvement, and that a syndicate has taken ,it up. Mr H. Smith, clerk in the Marlborough Education Board office* having died, his sister was appointed the other day to the vacant position. The services of the Garrison Artillery Corps recently formed pt Devonport (Auckland) have. been accepted by the Government.
The necessary deposit money, has been lodged with the petition against the election of Mr W. G. Buchanan forwairarapa. Slight shocks of earthquake were felt in Wellmgtonyesterday morning. The North Canterbury Charitable Aid Board are calling the attention of the Government to the need of a home for incurables.
. For having had the temerity to oppose the Hon. J. G. Ward for Awarna, Mr C. Cowan, whom term of office at a member of the Southland Land Board hasjust expired, baabeen replaced by Mr Drama King.
