VOLUNTEER INTELLIGENCE.
The East Taieri Rifles went into camp on Saturday evening. The Dunedin Navals will hold their annual encampment at the beginning of next month. The camp this year will be pitched in the ForburyPark, the site having been placed at the disposal of the oompany Dy the Jockey Club. A battalion parade was held yesterday evening. The following is the parade state :— Staff.—Lieutenant-colonel Webb, Major Smaill, Captain and Adjutant Milne, and Sergeant-major Castle. Garrison Band, 19. Dunedin Navals.—l captain, 2 lieutenants, 4 sergeants, 4 corporals, 23 privates; total, 36. City Guards.—l captain, 2 lieutenants, 2 sei'geants, 2 corporals, 17 privates; total, 24. Highland Rifles.—l captain, 1 lieutenant, 3 sergeants, 2 corporal?, 1 bugler, 28 privates; total, 36. North Dunedin Rifles.—l captain, 3 sergeants, 4 corporals, 20 privates ; total, 28. Dunedin Engineers.—2 lieutenants, 1 sergeantmajor, 4 sergeants, 1 bugler, 36 privates; total,4B. Life is short—only four letters in it. Someone has noticed that, curiously, threequarters of it is a "lie,''' and a half of it is an " if."
