—• The amount of revenue collected at the Custom bouse on goods cleared to-day for consumption was ±-1,15718s Id. RAILWAY RETURNS. The return of railway receipts and expenditure for the four weeks ended sth December shows the former to have been £104,223 18s Id, and the latter £58,120 9s Id. In the corresponding period of the previous year the figures £ were £90,207 lis and £5(5.424 19s 4d respectively. Of the revenue the North Island lines contributed £40.353 lis 7d, as against £34,902 3s Id and the Middle Island lines £63,870 6s bd, as against £55,305 7s lid. The North Island lines absorbed £23,143 5s 7d, as against £21,7% 4s Bd, and the Middle Island lines £34,977 3s M, as against £34,628 14s Bd. The proportion of expenses to revenue on the several lines, calculated oa an annual average, for the respective periods of a* follows :-No*th Island: Kawakawa, 107.33, 79.47; Whargarei, 97.44, 83.98; Kaihu, 42.3 L b2.b2; Auckland, 71.27, 73.29; Napier-Taranaki,- <0.60, 69.63; Wellington, 62.01, 67.78.
