CYCLING.

A Napier telegram states that Reynolds, the Auckland rider, rode a mile and a half-mile in 2min 13 1 ssec and Imin 6 2 ssec respectively, uupaced in each instance, and from a standing start. An Adelaide telegram says that Toms, a cyclist, rode 100 miles in 5h 7min 3sec—an Australian record. A meeting of the Sports Committee of the Otago Cycling Club was held in the club room, Octagon, last night, Mr H. B. Courtis (president) in the chair. Entries for the sports to be held on January 9 will be received till 31st December. Prizes were received from Messrs A. Cowie and J. M‘Phee. A club run will he held to Waitati on Saturday and a moonlight run to Mosgiel on Monday next. The following handicaps have been declared by Messrs Crow and Riddell for the last of the series of the three races for Mr W. Melville’s trophies Five-mile Handicap. —H. W. Macdonald scratch, V. Boot scratch, P. R. Parker 190 yards, F. Smith 220, W. Crawford 240, W. E. Gibson 260, F. Anderson 280, W. Yorston 290, H. Wootton 320. The race comes off to-morrow evening. According to the mode of scoring the rider gaining the least number of points throughout the series wins the trophies. At present the points held by the different riders are:—Macdonald 3, Boot 4, Crawford 7, Smith 9, Anderson 11, Gibson 11.
