A SALUTARY LESSON,

CHRISTCHURCH, December 15.

In the Bankruptcy Court this morning an application was made for a writ of attachment in the ease of the bankrupt John Scott Myers, who refused to give up possession of certain property sold under order of the Court. The Official Assignee said he had received the key at ten o’clock that morning. His Honor, after referring to the facts of the case, said the bankrupt had defied aud insulted the Court by refusing to obey the law. He (Judge Denniston) must show the bankrupt and others like him that they could not defy the law of the country with impunity. The bankrupt would be adjudged guilty of contempt, and sentenced to seven days’ imprisonment therefor, and also ordered to pay five guineas costs.
