PAYMENT OF POLL CLERKS.

Notwithstanding their arduous and unpleasant duties, “ these unfortunates ” were remunerated by the handsome sum of 12a 6d for, in many cases, over thirteen hours’ work, I ask you, Mr Editor, is this, la your opinion, a fair wage for a—ahem ' Liberal Government to pay ? I’m sure you do not, and hope you will use your influence when the time comes around again in the direction of bettering this state of affairs. If I mistake not, the usual pay was one guinea, but a Liberal Government being in power accounts for the change.—l am, etc., Disgusted. Dunedin, December 8,
