RAVENSBOURNE BOATING BAZAAR.
The weekly meeting of this Committee was held last night in the Masonic Hall. There was a full attendance of members, who reported satisfactory progress being made by the lady stallholders with respect to the work done and gifts received from outside sources. The secretary reported that arrangements were being made whereby several of the Dunedin brass bands would be .present on alternate nights during the bazaar. A letter was received from Mr Brittenden, tho secretary of theO.M.Y.C, promising every assistance from their club to the bazaar's model yacht exhibition. The following resolution from the Rev. W. H. Ash on behalf of a meeting of the Ravensbourne Churches was read:—"That this meeting, being representative of the various churches located in this district, sympathise with the bazaar which is being arranged for the purpose of raising funds in order to build a boatshed, and undertake to assist it in every way possible, and would express tho wish that the Committee of the boatshed could see their way in making regulations to provide for the closing of the boatshed on Sundays." Mr Gruit moved—"That this meeting beg to express their thanks for the resolution of sympathy passed by the combined churches in the district, as they feel such a resolution will be an incentive to everyone to do their utmost to make the bazaar a genuine success. As this Committee are only a preliminary one, they are hardly warranted in making any definite promise on behalf of the Committee to be appointed when the boathouse is in existence. However, this Committee promise to bring the request of the combined churches before such committee with a view of giving effect to their wish."—Carried unanimously. It was decided to ask the members of the Dunedin Photographic Society to contribute photographs to the photographic competition and exhibition. The handsome presents donated by many of the Dunedin business houses for prizes to the art union fund were generally appreciated, and much satisfaction evinced at the enthusiastic manner in which the bazaar is being taken up by the people of the district.
