FRIENDLY SOCIETIES.

The weekly meeting of the Hope of "Dunedin Lodge, 1.0. G.T., was held in the Oddfellows' Kail, Rattray street, on Wednesday evening. Bri. G. *W. Sandtmtfn, C.T., presided, and there was a very large attendance of members and visitors. Two candidates were initiated as members cf the lodge. The reports of the various committees were adopted. The C.T. referred in a touching manner and with deep regret at the untimely death of Sinter M. A. Paine, who, he said, had been a most zealou.3 worker for the cause, and one whose place it would be hard to fiil ; and it was resolved that a letter of condolence be sent to the family of the late sister sympathising with them in their sad bereavement. The nomination and election of officers for the ensuing quarter then took place, and resulted as follows :—C.T., Bro. D. Kane : Y.T., Sister E. Rountree; F.S., Bro. D. Hunter; treasurer, Bro. Simpson ; secretary, Bro. H. D. Fiah; M., Bro. L. Booth; D.M., Sister Naylor; chaplain, Sister rLlmsley; AS, Bro. Kennard; G., Bro. J. Sandeman; sentinel, Bro. Barlow; pianist, Bro. H. Black. The following contributed to the harmony :—Bros. Kennard, O'Raw, O'Brien, Lindsay, I. Sandeman, and Sisters O'Hallaran and M'Kinlay. Four members applied f or their district degrees. A hearty vote of 5 hanks was accorded the visitors and those who contributed to the harmony, which was responded to by the 'various members present.
