THE COMMISSION OF THE PEACE.
Among the new Justices of the Peace appointed in the Wellington provincial district are:—Sir Francis Dillon Bell, Sir Walter Buller, Sir Arthur Douglas (UnderSecretary for Defence), Messrs O'Hara Smith (auditor of the Land Department), Henry Mackenzie (manager of the Bank of New Zealand), A. Scoullar (Chisholm and Scoullar), John G. Fildes, G. V. Shannon (Customs expert), W. G. Rhind (inspector of the Bank of New South Wales), William Watson (president.of the Bank of New Zealand), Hon. J. E. Jenkinson, Hon. J. Rigg. Mr F. Sutton, J.P., of Napier, who recently sued Mr J. Grindell unsuccessfully for time occupied in attesting private agreements and for the use of his office while the transactions were taking place, has, under date May 22, received notice from the Justice Department that, on the advice of Ministers, His"Excellency the Governor has omitted his name from the new Commission of the Peace.
