The Hag at the Harbor Office was Hoisted half; mast high to-day on account of the death cif Prince Henry of Battenberg. The Napier, with cargo from Riverton, arrived at the Rattray street wharf yesterday afternoon, and left again to-day for Waikawa. The Omapere left the Rattfrty street wharf this afternoon for the West Coast ports. The barque Auriga, with 770 tons of coal and tvventy-tive tons of coke from Newcastle, which arrived off the Heads at 1 p.m. yesterdav, was tendered by the tug Plucky, which brought her Into port, and coming up the harbor it was noticed she had a very heavy list to starboard. She was cleared in and anchored off Carey Bay at 5 p.m. until this morning, when she was towed hp to Dunedin. Since the Auriga’s last Visit here she has been to London, thence to Mauritius. Melbourne, ami Newcastle) and it is worthy of remark that only three weeks elapsed since she left Melbourne, having dis barged at that port a cargo of sugar. Captain Stone reports leaving Newcastle on January 13, with a light northerly wind, which held until the 16th, when she experienced very unsettled and changeable leather ilntil the 19th, on which day she encountered a heavy W.S.W. gale with very high con fused sea, causing the vessel to labor heavily and shipping large quantities of water; the wind then veered to S.W. until the 21st, then in latitude 45deg S., longitude 167deg 17min E., when it shifted to the northward, being light at first and gradually increasing up to midnight, when it blew a heavy gale; sail was reduced to the two lower topsails, and at 4 a.m. on the 22nd it blew a heavy gale from the N.N.W., and the vessel was hove-to on the port tack, the ship being then about ten miles south of Puysdgur Point; at 0 a.m. the gale Increased to hmricane force with ferritic squalls hnd tremendously high sea, the ship being conpletely under water on the starboard side up to the sheer poles; everything movable was washed otf the starboard side, the water bursting in the forecastle door, and washing everything out of the lower bunks on the starboard side. She lay in this position for six hours, with a tremendous quantity of water on her decks. At 10 a.m. a very heavy squall struck the vessel and the wind shifted to the westward. Oil bags were used, which had considerable effect in smoothing the Water, the sea being much calmer. The ship Was then kept away before the wind. In doing So it was found she had a very heavy list, the cargo having shifted. All hands at once went down the forehold and Dimmed a quantity of coal from the starboard to the port side, the vessel still having a considerable list. Passed the Solanders at 1.30 p.m. and Dog Island at 9 p.m..arriving off the Heads at 1 p.m. yesterday. The crew, on getting up the chain cables yesterday morning, found there was 3ft of water in the chain lockers and fore peak, which had got down during the time she was partly under water. mariners, take note. Wellington, January 2-3.— Captain MT.eth, of the Corinna, reports that he passed a largo topmast yesterday about four miles south of I’encarrow, and right in the track of vessels coming from the direction of Cape Campbell.
