The Round Hill, Akatore, and Waitati School Committees have nominated Messrs Mackenzie and Green for the Education Board vacancies; the Ettrick Committee, Messrs Gallaway and Mackenzie; and the Blue Spur and Miller Flat Committees, Messrs Green and Mackenzie. The Land Office at Dunedin reports the following transactions during the week : Allotment 4," Puketapu, 72a lr 26p, selected by James Cochrane under the lease-in-perpetuity system at an annual rental of 8s 9d per acre ; section 19, block 3, Akatore, 66a 26p, selected by Andrew Higgie under the Bame system at a capital value of 10s per acre.

Lecturing upon Prohibition at Nelson last week, the Rev. F. W. Isitt said that from North Canterbury to InvercargiU there was very great reason to believe that they would carry " no license " within a large part of that area. He had hopes that the Prohibitiomists would carry the poll at Kaiapoi, Aahburton, and Timaru. Dunedin would probably carry " no license," and right away to Invercargill. He ventured to prophesy that Clutha, where a spurious Prohibition had been tried, would reaffirm its vote for Prohibition by a strong majority.

Mi*J Lilian Edger's lecture on 'Theoaophy in its Teachings as a Guide to Life' was delivered to a fairly numerous audienoe, consisting mainly of ladies, at the Stuart street Oddfellows' Hall last evening. The lecturer treated her subject in an interesting manner, and her illustrations, were &pt and homely. The central tefafchftig of Theosophy, she said, wtfa that there was one Divine Sowce of everything, from which the whore universe proceeded, and every» thing in the universe was animated by a ray, as it were, from the one Divine Source. The Theosophical teaching wa3 that we should make ihe aara, or sort of atmosphere produced about us by our thoughts, so pure and full of good and holy thoughts that those who came iu contact with ua might be helped rather than hindered in their efforts to live a higher, nobler, and bettor life. On Mr Colclough's motion the thanks of the meeting were accorded to the lecturer for her address, and it was announced that Miss Edger would lecture on Sunday night on 1 Theosophy and Religion.'

We have to thank the Government Printer for a pamphlet descriptive of the Hanmer sanatorium, and giving directions how to get theie. These hot bprings are now quite easy of access, and if their merits were better known would be more frequently visited than they are. The Government are doing tho right thing in widely circulating literature on the subject. The Dunedin Regatta Committee notify in this issue a long Hat of shopkeepers and others from whom tickets for the illuminated aquauc display, to be held on the wharf next Tuesday evening, can be bought. The railway authorities are also delaying the ton o'clock train to Port Chalmers for fifteen minutes to enable the Port people to Bee the finish of the disp'ay, which is expected to be over by ten

At the Garrison Hall to-morrow night the Dunedin Burns Club celebrate the 136 th anniversary of the poet's birth with a splendid concert, at -which tho leading talent of the City will sing a number of the gems of Scottish song. The choir, under the direction of Mr J. 13. Fergusson, will assist, aud early in the evening tho Hon. T. Fergus will deliver an address. Train 3 will leave for Mosgiel and Tort Chalmers after the concert.
