CRICKET.
The Mornington Club met the Butchers at Mornington on Saturday, when the latter won by 3 runs. The scores were: Mornington 42 and 28 (M'Farlane 15 and 13), and Butchers 26 and 47 (R. Botting 17). M'Farlane for the losers, and Bethune, Irvine, and ' Morrison for the winners, were the most successful bowlers. The Butchers yesterday journeyed to Port Chalmers, where they were defeated by the local players by 20 runs. Scores : Butchers 46 (Irvine 24, R. Botting 10), Port Chalmers 66 (A. Hunter 23, not out, Pope 14). A match was played yesterday afternoon between A. and T. Inglis's C.C. and the University C.C, the latter winning by 11 runs on the first innings. Scores: Uni versitv, 36 and 73 for two wickets (Neill 23, Nicols'on 29 not out); A. and T. Inglis, 25 (Spraggon 10 not out). Nelson were all got rid of at New Plymouth yesterday for 54. At the close of the day's play Taranaki in her second imiing3 had lost four wickets for 54 runs. The match was continued to-day. At the luncheon adjournment the second inning's of Taranaki concluded for 111, of which A. Bay ley (not out) contributed 24.
