WELLINGTON. WELLINGTON, December ,26. The match New South Wales v. Wellington was begun on the Basin Reserve this morning. The weather was fine, though a strong nor’-wester was blowing in the morning but it died away during the afternoon. The wicket was in good order. Messrs Furness and Ashbolt were the respective umpires. The Welshmen won the toss, and elected to bat. In the early part of the innings their play was disappointing, and it wai not until Noonan and Ridge got together that the game became interesting—the former being particularly aggressive, and his score including ten boundary hits of 4 each. After lunch the scoring was very rapid, and had Shea succeeded* id getting anyone to stay with him the score would have exceeded the second century, as lie was hitting all round—each bowler in turn coming in for a share of his favors.
