A leading English author .has appealed to the American ties of blood and literature in fiiyor of the maintenance of peace. ! : The Prince of Wales, speaking at York, replied to the 1 ‘ New York * articles, arid expressed his belief that the crisis would ba arranged in a manner satisfactory to both countries, and that the same warm friendship, which had existed for many years would continue. ;
‘The Times’ New York correspondent wires that the Prince of Wales Gy hit speech showed that ho well understood the feeling of parties in the United States. Public opinion in the latter country is that they can accept , his message as being equally gratifying to both countries and likely to be interpreted as expressing the Queen’s sentiments, Venezuela is appealing to kindred States for help in the event of an outbreak of war, but the New York Press state that it is useless for that Republic to hope for any outside assistance. .
Pulpit reference was made in some of the churches at Eyclney on Christmas Day to.the present difficulty,- and- earnest hopes, expressed that peace would be maintained;
