THE PRICE OF SILVER.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—Now that the public are beginning to understand that the general level of prices they receive for their products rises or falls with the price of silver, I would like to draw your attention to the scanty information supplied to us in this colony by the Press Association. Every week the Bank of England return is cabled to the colony, as it should be, but the price of silver rarely appears. Much matter of little commercial importance is cabled out, so I cannot understand why they omit silver. Compare this with the information cabled to Australia The last 'Banking Record' shows quotations on 21st, 241h, 26th, 30th, and 31st August, and 2nd, 4th, sth, and 14th September. In our papers several weeks sometimes elapse without a quotation.

If Press people would only realise that two-thirds of the human race decide whether thoy will send their products to a gold money market —or make purchases there—by the number of ounce? of silver that a sovereign will buy they would understand how important it is for our producers that there should be a rise in silver, and that we should get regular news about it. Trusting you can do something to remedy this—l am, eta, Rudolf. Dunedin, October 25.
