MUNICIPAL.
CAVERSHAM.—At last night's meeting the Finance Committee reported that £26917s Id i had been lodged in the bank, and recom-1 mended that accounts amounting to £648 j 5s 8d be passed for payment. The Committee were of opinion that to make a satisfactory by-law re vehicle stands the resolution passed by the Council on Maroh 14 last should be rescinded. Adopted.—Tne Works and Baths Committee reported having considered Mr Knipe's letter, and recommended the Council to raise the footpath in Edwin street, at a cost of 30$. They reported having given the owner of section 34, Caversham Rise, notioe to clear the gorse off St. Hillier's court. Adopted.— The Drainage, Water, and Sanitary Committee reported having appointed Messrs Findlay and Thomas authorised plumbers during the pleasure of the Council. The Committee had granted the Fire Brigade their request for 100 ft of canvas hose. Adopted. —The Caversham Fire Brigade wrote asking the Council for 400 ft of hose, including the 100 ft already applied for. The brigade also invited the Council to attend a social, to be held on Friday night, the Ist November, when they would like the mayor to present the medals won on Labor Day. The application for the hose was granted. The Acting-Secretary of the Dunedin Ocean Beach Domain Board wrote acknowledging the receipt of the Council's letter, informing the Board that the Council surrendered all claim to the St. Clair baths as from August 1, 1895, from which date it agreed thit the Board should be deemed to have been in lawful possession of the baths and foreshore, and requesting the Board, as soon as convenient, to fix the amount to which the Council might be considered entitled. As to the former portion, the writer was directed to remind the Council of the fact that the baths were vested in the Board when the Ocean Beach Public Domain Act, 1892, was assented to. With regard to the latter portion, he was directed to say that the Board would presently assess what it considered would be an equitable amount to pay the Council when it was in a position to do so. The Mayor was about to refer to a question that had occurred to hin: a few weeks ago, but requested that the matter might not be published, to which course Cr Hancock dissented, saying it was a publio matter. The Mayor : Well I can say what I have to say later on. The letter was received.—Mr Morrison, M.H.R., telegraphed that he had succeeded in getting £IOO passed on the Estimates for Cargill road. Received.
