The. French Vice-admiral Cuverille, in charge at Cherbourg, has been arrested for censuring the redaction made in the army vote by the Budget Committee in the Chamber of Deputies. The Portuguese mutineers in Goa hold Governor 15aUi|&_ as a hostage, and thoy continue wrecking churches and plundering people. - The Victorian contracts for the carnage of produce cover a period of two years from May next. There are no signs of the drought breaking in South Australia. In some districts cattle are being turned into the wheat paddocks, where the crop is too short to cut. Mr Featherstoohaugb, of the Graziers' Meat Export Company, has roturned to Sydney from a visit to American meat centres. He is more than over impressed with the fact! that there is a great future for the mPat export trade from Australia. He is confident that the conveyance of meat in a chilled oondition is the only proper treatment.
Recently the New South Wales Government asked the French Government to dispense with some of the regulations which interfere with the introduction of Australian frozen meat into France. An official reply has been received that it is impossible to relax the' conditions under which the sanitary inspection of foreign meat is conducted. ',■■ '■'■''
