THE OTAGO HUSSARS.

Tahuna Park bears a decidedly military aspect at present, the seventeen tents which accommodate the Hussars, and the stacks of lances, armed men, and stalled horses giviug quite a martial air to the enclosure. Ihe time so far has been taken up principall v with practising the new drill just issued by the New Zealand Government. As an example of the work done by the Hussars while in camp we will brittiy give the programme for today. At 5 a.m. the reveille was sounded, and at 530 the troop fell in for half an hour's preliminary exercise. They then procoeded eastward to the Peninsula, forming a recounaisancc iu two Columns, the patrols and scout parties establishing lateral communication across country, sketches and reports of same being funrshed by leaders of parties. Returning at eight 0 clock, breakfast wa3 consumed, and at halfpint nine a parade for dismounted work wa3 held, and at mid-day, after stable work, lunch was partaken of. In the afternoon squads proceeded to the Tomahawk for musketry practice, at 5 p.m. a mounted parade was held, and dinner was to be prepared at seven o'clock. After dinner it is usual to give theoretical instruction to the section leaders, and the first post is sounded at ten o'clock, and all lights out at 10.45. The corps are evidently benefiting by the lectures and study of Captain Robins's work on 'Detached Duties.' Cap'ain Coleman, of Wellington, staff officer of mounted corps for the colony, and Surgeon - captain Coughtrey are staying in the camp. The mess department is under the superintendence of the popular Sergeant-major Park, and is giving every satisfaction. To-night the corps patronise 'A Life of Pleasure.'
