The amount of revenue collected it ttw Custom-house on goods cleared to-day -for eongumption was £17218s lOd. Business during the' week has continued quiet in the import market, and values of the leading lines show little or no change. The correspondent of the 'Lake County Press' reports that mining seems to be on the • boom" at Rough Ridge (murteen mites from Naseby), where three claims have been applied for. The Rough Ridge Quartz Mining syndicate, with a proposed capital of £IOO,OOO, has applied for 100 acres, the proposed mode of working the land being quartz mining by adit levels and shafts. Other two claims of 25 acres each, with a proposed capital of £IO,OOO, have been applied for by Mr F. H. Perry. This claim is called the Rough Ridge Quartz Mining Company. In Naseby mining is going ahead a bit. (ruffle and party have applied for two claims of 30 acres each, to be worked by sluicing and elevating. But I hear there is a scarcity of water for mining, the Government race not being cleared yet to allow enough water to come in.

THE LABOR MARKET. Mr Skene reports: —lt is cheering to report a steady improvement at last, principally for station, farm, and dairy people, after a weary spell.
