AUCKLAND, August 15.
A privats cablegram announces the death of Mr Charles Harding, a local vocalist who toured the colonies in opera some years ago. The railway station at Papakura has been broken into. The top of the safe was blown open and about £4O was taken.
WELLINGTON, August 15.
The Anti-Chinese League, after considerable discussion and opposition, have passed a resolution endorsing the proposal to concentrate the Chinese in one quarter of the town. Several speakers pointed out that there was no power to make them shift.
CHRISTCHURCH, August 15.
On the nieht of the 7th inst. the premises of F. Trent, merchant, were broken into and 2801b of tobacco stolen. Last night the detectives recovered nearly all the tobacco in an empty house at St. Albans, and this morning they arrested two men on a charge of stealing it.
