INTERESTING STATISTICS
There were 4,178 marriages solemnised in New Zealand in 1891. Of these 509 were “second offences,” 179 being contracted between bachelors and widows, 227 between widowers and spinsters, and 103 between widows and widowers. Sixty males and 816 females were married before attaining their legal ma jority. Of the various denominations 955 marriages were Church of England, 603 Presbyterian, 488 Wesleyans, 454 Presbyterian Church of Ocago and Southland, and 421 Roman Catholics. The register was signed by marks by 43 males and (33 females. There were seven husbands between 18 and 19 years old, and 60 under 21. Twentytwo were between 60 and 65, six between 65 and 70, and six upwards of 70. Two wives were between 16 and 17, twenty-three between 17 find 18, and Sl6 were 21 and under. One septuagenarian husband chose a wife of 21, one selected a widow of 40, one a wife of 55, one 65, anti two took suitable mates of 70. The favorite age for marriages among men is from 25 to 30, and females from 21 to 25.
