At the request of the Ocago A. and P. Association, Mr 1). J. Nathan, has arranged to visit Dunedin next month, and will address that body on his proposals for the expansion of the frozen meat trade.
At the Gore Police Court yesterday, before Mr Hawkins, S.M., May Turner, charged witli sly grog-selling on the 9th of last month, was lined £lO and costs. A similar charge against a man named Brown was withdrawn, the defendant Turner taking all responsibility. Inspector Pardy prosecuted, and Mr Ne; Vj defended. The following sections of Crown lands were disposed of at the Dunedin ofKce'this week:—Run 204 a, Maniototo, 5,450 acres, selected by A. G. Mathias, as a pastoral run, at p.u annual rental of i'6B 2s (id; section 15, block 10, Woodland, 207 acres,' selected by G. C. Mctaal, under occupation with right of purchase, at the capital value of !Ss !>l per acre. Mr Albert Lucas's play, ' the Slave's "Ransom,' was repeated at the Princess's Theatre last evening to a fair audience. The piece went smoothly throughout, with Mis 3 Wilde, Mr Lucas, and Mr Greenaway in the leading roles. To-morrow night the amalgamated companies of Mr Lucas and Mr Kennedy will produce the comedy 'The Guv'nor,' when there should be a bumper house.
At the King street Congregational Church last evening the l'cv. (J. H. Bradbury delivered an interesting lecture entitled 'Twice Two arc Four.' Mr Joseph Abcrnelhy occupied tho chair, and said he. was pleased to hiivj the opportunity 0 f i'ltioilucing the lecturer to them, and still more in informing them that in a short time Mr Bradbury will be perni mi idly .'ell led in this City. At the conelusion of the lecture Mr P.r.idbury was accorded a hcurly vole of thanks.

There should be a la-go attor.dwcc at Mr Bryant's benefit at the Princess's to-night. Luella performs his slide for life, there will be a skirt dance, sundry musical selections, a comedietta by the Kennedy Company, and a negro farce. ,
A branch of the Prohibition League for South Dunedin is to be formed at the Cargill road Weslejan Mission Hall this evening Two prominent local Prohibitionists are to address the meeting, and musical items will be rendered by the Mission choir. The meeting is free, and a large attendance hj expected. The weekly meeting of the Hope of Cavcrsdiam Lodge, 1.0. G.T., was held last evening in the lodge room, when tin re v. as a very fair attendance of members. The North-oast Valley Bib'o Bind and Literary Society held their weekly meeting on "Wednesday, the president (Mr Arnold) in°tho chair. There was a good attendance of members and visitors. The subject was 'Our Favorite Texts and How They Have Helped Us.' Members' time was spent in considering the favorite passages of Sciipture, and short addresses were delivered by Miss Garrett and Mr Benfcll, the form9r_ taking for her subject ' Children's Appreciation of Kindness,' and proving that kindly words and actions cost but little. The Saviour's example in not only speaking kindly to children, but even gathering them in His arras, was cited as showing how He would have His followers act. Mr Benfcll spoke on 'Christian Coin panionships,' arguing that the question of where a Christian thould go, or what he might do, bhould be governed by the consideration of whether it would have au enobliug effect upon his character or not, and whether he could, while in that society or when engaged in that particular action, contemplate Divine matters with pleasure to himself and satisfaction to Lis Mastt-r. Both were lUtned to v/iLb satisfaction.
