The store room and cattle-killing premises attached to the Bourke (Victoria) Meat Works were destroyed by fire. The damage is estimated at £5,000. The premises were insured in the Commercial Union and North British Offices for £7,000. Mr Robert Chapman, jun., of Christchurch, who was on a visit to his father, is entitled to the credit of having taken steps which led to the putting out of the fire at Mr J. R. Sinclair's residence.
