Lord Randolph Churchill passed ft milch quieter night, and seems to be shaking off the oomatose condition in which he has been lying during the last twenty-four nours. Weddell's annual report states that the meat export trade from the Australasian colonies has largely increased during. the past year, but it is difficult to maintain eVen the prjesent moderate net returns, as irregular supplies have caused serious losses. The report urges upon the respective colonies to regulate the movements of vessels carrying frozen meat in accordance with the state of trade. Hamburg is referred to as forming an excellent base for a pioneer movement to establish trade between the colonies and the Continent, and the hope is expressed that direct trade will be opened up with Trieste, the meat being retailed in Vienna, where successful business is being built up. The prospects of the trade in France are leas hopeful. It is evident that Belgium must import meat to a considerable extent.
