Herald, s.s., 356 tons, Jones, for the West Coast, Napier, s.s., 48 ton 3, M'Gilvray, for Riverton. The Herald left the Dunedin wharf this morning for Oamaru and the West Coast ports. The Napier arrived at Dunedin wharf at 4.30 a.m. to-day from Owaka, and left again this afternoon for Riverton. The Penguin was floated out of the graving dock and her place taken up by the Mararoa. The Janet Nicoll left Lyttelton at 4.30 p.m. yesterday, and arrived at Port Chalmers at 1 p.m. to-day, passing up to Dunedin. Owing to the heavy rain to-day very little work was done amongst the shipping. The Flora, with cargo and passengers from the North, arrived at Dunedin wharf at 8.30 a.m. today. She left Wellington at 7.30 p.m. on the Ist inst., and arrived at Lyttelton at 10.15 a.m. next day; left again at 3.30 p.m., had tine weather down the coast, and arrived as above. The flags of the shipping were hoisted half-mast high to-day in respect to the memory of the late Czar of Russia. Mr Wolley, late chief officer of the Ovalau, has been appointed to the command of the Maori in the Fiji trade. Acting-Purser Barnes, of the Comma, has been promoted to the Taviuni. On October 6 the ship Titania arrived at Suva, having made a record passage from Sydney, having done the trip in three and a-half days. Her best runs were 230 and 250 miles. ARRIVAL OF THE MATATUA. The Shaw, Savill and Albion Company's cargi> steamer Matatua, from London via Auckland, Wellington, and Oamaru, arrived off the Heads at 11 p.m. yesterday, and anchored until early this morning, when she steamed into port and was berthed alongside the George street pier, and atoncecommenced to take on board frozen mutton. The Matatua is still under the command of Captain A. M'Dougall, who has associated with him the following officers:—Chief, Mr W. B. Holmes (late of the Rangatira); second, Mr D. D. Plunkctt (late of the Rangatira); third, Mr A. H. Kirby (late ship Pleiades); chief engineer, Mr A. M'lntyre; second, Mr A. Hall; third, Air A. Allen; fourth, Mr 11. J. Le Cren ; refrigerating engineers, Messrs If. C. Hutchinson and J. Crawford ; chief steward, Mr .1. H. Parkin. The Matatua left London on August 22, and arrived at Auckland on the 21st ult. Discharged 2,500 tons i-ai ■"(>, ami lift on the 26th ; reached Wellington mi the 28th, and there discharged 900 tons cargo and took on board 2,HOU bales wool, leaving on the 31st: arrived at Oamaru on the Ist inst., took on board-SHOO carcas-*.- frozen mutton and 300 bales wool, leaving on the evening of the 2nd. Passengers: Eighty excur sionists.—November 3: 3 a.m., Mahinapua, from Oneliiiuga and Taranaki. Among her passengers were four of the Wairarapa's surviTors—F. Nicoll (who leaves for Kaikoura to-night); Langley, and two Chinamen.—7.3o a.m., Rotomahana, from Napier.—lo a.m., Te Anau, from Lyttelton.—The Rotorua and Rotomahana leave for Lyttelton at 11 p.m. and the Omapere at 7 p.m., with full complements of passengers.
