DUNEDIN PROHIBITION LEAGUE.
TO THE EDITOR.
Sir, —We are very greatly obliged to the pditora and reporters qf our local Press for the handsome style in which they published the rejiort of our late annual meeting, but the smaft paragraph in last night’s Evening Sjtar concerning the subscriptions would have been improved if it had been completed by the addition of my words of explanation : “No effort has hitherto been made to collect the annual subscriptions, but a plan fqr it is now before the Committee.” It seems very invidious to appear even to complain of tije Press reporters, who are, indeed, to be “highly esteemed for their work’s sake,” but I am jealous for the honor of the Dunedin Prohibition League. I made a mistake myself in the number (44), which ought to have been a much larger number, who have paid their subscriptions without being asked. The fact is that I counted the names on one side only of our treasurer’s list, and, as I made a mistake in mentioning the matter at all, on me let the blame lie.— \ am, etc., J. T. Hinton. Dunedin, August 15.
