IN RE WM. M'LEOD AND CO.’S BANKRUPTCY.

TO THE KDITOE. Sib, —Permit me afew lines to reply to Mr W. P. Watson, who states that because of my action he how refuses to recognise bis expressed and acknowledged obligatiqp to creditors, quite overlooking the fact that he was sued because he ref used to pay, as tho following little incident will show: —“Shortly after the fie I applied to Mr Watson for a cheque for my account, which he sa;d he would give me at once if I could obtain from M'Leod ms consent to put the insurance money into the bank in their joint names to pay the creditors of W. M'Leod and Co. I went and obtained from M'Leod his undertaking in writing to do so, and returned to Mr Watson after the lapse of about half an hour, when, instead of agreeing to his own proposition, he remarked ‘he would have to see his solicitor first, and could not now bind himself to pav the creditors.’ ’’ Seeing this was so, and that he was merely humbdgging, I had, in selfdefence, to take action, but those Concerned will note Watson refused to pay before action; whilst be now avers that because of action he will not pay. The excdse is as clumsy as it well can do. ' I will not descend to personalities, nor do I think it worth my while to correct many misstatements made by Mr Watson in his letter, as it would take up too much of your space, and also unnecessary, as those concerned are aware of the facts.—l am, etc.,

T. K. Habtv
