The amount ot revenue collected at the Customhouse on noods cleared to-day for consumption was £75014s lid. MINING NOTES. Mr Peter Barr, secretary of the United Hercules Hydraulic Sluicing Company, Limited, has received the following telegram from the manager;— ‘ Ten days’ sluicing, 450z 2dwt; value, £173 12s 9d. Frost cut water off 7th and Bth ; started again to-day.” RAILWAY TRAFFIC RETURNS. The railway returns for the four weeks ended 29th April show the receipts to have been £113,259, and the expenditure £s(i,tio2. In the corresponding period last year the receipts were £114,380, and tlie expenditure £59,094. Of the receipts the North Island lines contributed £30,299, as against £34,380, the expenditure being £21,414, ns against £19,498. The Middle Island lines yielded £70,951, ns against £79,994, and the expenditure amounted to £35,187, as against £40,195. The proportion of expenditure to revenue, calculated on an annual average, on the respective lines for the two periods of this aniMast year, was as follows; North Island: Kawakawa, 108.99, 83.25; Whangarei, 03,91, 77.10; Kailiu, 71.70, —; Auckland, 57.54, (10,59; NapierTaranaki, 59.83, 55.17: Wellington, 57.10, 53.38. Middle Island; Huruuui • Bluff, 45.10, 49.11 ; G reymouth, 49.97, 05.39; Westport, 4-1.01, 57.42: Nelson, 55.80, 00.98; I’icton, 83.20, 00.19. Grand total, 49.98, 52.19.
