BANKING TROUBLES.
A DAY OF HUMILIATION.

MELBOURNE, May 9. (Received May 9,1893, at 11.30 a.m.)
Bishop Goe has issued a circular setting Wednesday, the 17th inst., apart as a day ! of humiliation and prayer in connection with the recent financial troubles. LONDON, May 8. (Received Mw 9,1893,' at U. 50 a,m.) Messrs Prjngle, Dallas, and Co., deposit agents in Edinburgh for the Standard Bank, have resigned, as they disagreed with the scheme of rawnstruction, and the bank refused to call a meeting of Scotch depositors. The company have called an opposition meeting for to-morrow. A meeting of forty shareholders of the bank have approved of the reconstruction with but five dissentients. A meeting of depositors was adjourned, but a, committee was appointed to discuss the scheme with the London Board. / ' The Times' deprecates investors selling, colonial Government stock, as it is "utterly needless to become alarmed. ",,!'
