THAT "POSITION-FINDER."
TO TUE EDITOR. Sir,—l notice in your issue of Monday last that a certain Captain Croskerry is receiving a deal of credit for inventing a “ position-finder.” Now, sir, I have not the least objection to anyone getting credit for his own invention. I have read the paragraph copied from ‘ Fair Play,’ giving a description of Captain Croskerrji/s invention, and I find it identical with one invented by myself, for which I hold letters patent dated August 28, 1889. Sir, I would not have taken any notice of the matter had you not stated that you were informed that the true inventor was Captain Chabfield, who showed and explained the instrument to Captain Croskerry when the latter visited the colony about three years ago. I
do not wish to say anything about Captain Ohatfield’ai tUAtrußsnt t but 4t is rathtr strange that about three years ago my instrument was for about six or aeven weeks in Captain Chatfield’s charge on board the Wairarapa.— l am etc.» James Arnott. Port dhahners r May 3.
