RIFLE SHOOTING.
Major Sommerville has issued a circular urging marksmen and volunteers to make a point of attending the next meeting of the New South Wales Rifle Association, to l>e held in the third Week of‘October next* The thnemooiipiod urthe trip is set dowu’dl four weeks, and the actual expenses of each representative will be about £l4. Major Sommerville says : “ The attendance of our men last year at Sydney, so far as numbers were concerned, was very limited, but I hope that next year a large contingent will represent the colony, feeling sure that these meetings will be the means of New Zealand eventually sending Home a team to compete at Bisley, in the Kolapore Cup, and against all comers. The great success of our men last year at Sydney leads us to suppose that we can at least meet the marksmen of our sister colonies on equal terms, and hold our own -against their best men. The fact of New Zealand being able to miter only two teams in the Club Match, and these two teams coming out—Auckland flit prize, and Petone fifth prize, against 100 teams competing, shows conclusively that the work of this Association has not lieen thrown away.”
