A vacancy has to be filled up on the Committee of the D.J.C. at this evening’s monthly meeting. The candidates are Messrs Sinclair Thomson and L. Maclean, and an active canvass has been made. ‘
Dilemma is to be taken up again after his short spell. The ruimer-up for the New Zealand Cup was brought down from Ehlerslie by Mr M’Guinness on Saturday, Though Paramu won the principal handicap at Oamaru in hollow stylo on Friday he has not been a profitable, purchase for his owner, and after the race Mr Goodman publicly offered to dispose of the son of Puriri with all engagements for LIOO. Paramu cost Ll5O at Ricoarton, and he was regarded as a bargain by Messrs R. Mason, Cutts, Derrett, and other experienced trainers.
Mr J. B. Williamson, the well-known Auckland /trainer, intcnls making ap early descent on Australia. Shillelagh will go over to compete across country, and Eve (the winner of the Northern Champagne Stakes) will probably participate in some of the pony races in Sydney or Melbourne.
Huguenot has been turned out at Elderslie, and will not race this season.
It is claimed that heads have been counted, and that a majority of the House are favorable to Mr Smith’s motion for the repeal of the totalisator. Action will be taken by the member for Waipawa at an early stage of the parliamentary session, so that clubs will have an opportunity of knowing their position before drawing up next season’s programme.
