The Mararoa, from Sydney via Wellington and Lyttelton, arrived alongside the Bowen pier at 6,30 am to-day. the left Sydney at 6.5 p.m. on the 30th ult., and experienced a succession of heavy easteily gales with veiy high seas from the Slat ult. until the 2nd lust,, and, owing to the dangerous nature of the sea, and to minimise the risk of her fruit cargo, the vessel eased down occasionally on the Ist, 2a'*, and 3rd lest ; passed Cape Farewell at 0.52 a.m. on the 4tb, Stephens Hand 6.30 a.m., and reached Wellington at 10.30 a.m., and left at 7.15 p.m. same day; called at Lyttelton, which port she left at 2.50 p m. on the 6th, arriving as above, having experienced fine weather down the ooast. The flogs of (he shipping were hoisted halfmast high to-day as a mark of respect fur the late Captain James Ferguson. The Dlngadee left Dunedin this afternoon with cargo for Westport. . , . The Penguin, from the North, arrived at Dunediu wharf at 6 a.m. to-day. She left Nelson at 8 p.m. on the 3rd Inst., called at Pioton, Wellington, and Lyttelton, left at 1 p m. yesterday, and had fine weather to arrival. TheCG.S. Hlnemoa arrived at the Heads from the North this forenoon. The Omapeie was discharging a quantity of saoka of grain to the Waitangl this forenoon. The Taupo hauled alongside the Botoklno this morning to discharge coals. The ship Taranaki was towed down from Dunedin this morning, and berthed at the export pier.
