THE CHESS TOURNEY

The final round of the Champion Ghees Congress was played at Christchurch yesterday. Mr Siedeberg defeated Mr Tait, Mr Cleland succumbed to Mr Hookbam, Mr Barnes defeated Mr Wood, Mr Eyre routed Mr Jowitt, and Messrs Cleland and Milner played a drawn game. Mr Siedeberg, lost year’s champion, has again asserted his supremacy. Of the nine games be played he won eight, and drew the ninth with his club-mate (Mr Cleland). Mr 11. Hookham (Christchurch) comes second with six wins, two losses, and one draw; Mr R J. Barnes (Wellington) third with six wins and three losses; and Mr W. B, Eyre (Christchurch) fourth with five wins, three losses, and one draw, Mr Cleland, of Dunedin, scored three wins, three losses, and three draws.
