Mr W. Berry haß teen elected president of the Auckland branch of the Journalists Institute. A vote of congratulation has been passed by the branch to the Hon. W, M'Cullougb, the retiring president, on his appointment to the Legislative Council. Close to the approach to the Waipawa railway bridge a rail weighing was deliberately placed across tjbe railway line. The train cut it in two, but returned tp Waipawa, when it was found thfi engine hajd received no material injury. The New Zealand Grand Lodge has been recognised by the grand lodges of Manitoba and Quebec. There are now 82 lodges, with 2,987 members, associated to the Grand Lodge. The Queen has sent a letter to President m his wise.
