MUNICIPAL.
Port Chalmers.—At Monday night's meeting a letter was read informing the Council that the Railway Commissioners regretted that they could not see their way to stop the express train from Dunedin to Christohuroh at the Port Chalmers Upper Station. The express train from Christchurch now stopped at Port Chalmers Upper to allow passengers from stations noith of Oamaru to alight. The resignation of Mr H. Mitchell as captain of the Fire Brigade, id consequence of his appointment as head of the Dunedin Fire Brigade, was accepted, and a complimentary letter instructed to be sent him on behalf of the Council.—Mr Norcliffe's application to lease the water reserve at Purakanui was declined.—The Reserves Committee reported having received a letter from Messrs Allen and Co,, dated 7th inst., asking to be relieved of the quarry known as Borlase'a, and recommending the matter being dealt with by the whole Council.—ln reference to the petition of Benjamin Christie that the Council would forego their claims for rates, the Committee could not see their way to make any recommendation in the matter. The report was adopted,—The application on behalf of the Port Chalmers Bowling Club to have the water laid on to their property was referred to the Water Committee with power to act,—Seven tenders were received for painting the old courthouse, and repairing the roof, and these were reforred to the Works Committee, with power to accept the lowest and most eligible, St. Kilda.— The mayor was deputed to attend the conference to be held with regard to the condition of the Sandhills, Ocean Beach,—A complaint as to the state of the drain at the junction of Hardy and Riohardson streets was referred to the inspector.— The application of Mr J. Capstick io have water laid on to the old Grand Paoifio Hotel was granted.
