The following were elected :—Messrs Aitken, Mathers, Wright, Huddart, Cordes, Knigge, and Early. At a meeting of the new Committee Mr Aitken was elected chiirman and Mr H. J. Mathers secretary and treasurer. The new method of electing school committees is far from satisfactory, and numerous complaints of its complexity have been made. At the annual meeting of the Mosgiel School Committee it was informally stated (says the ‘ Advocate ’) that the method of receiving nominations of school committeemen was most unsatisfactory, and that the Act required amending in more than one direction. It was stated that it would be preferable if nominations were closed say a week before the election, so that printed ballot papers might be obtained in time for the meeting. The general opinion seemed to be that the Act could be made more satisfactory were it amended in one or two directions.
