SUPREME COURT SITTINGS.

At the Supreme Court, Hokitika, yesterday, before Mr Justice Denniston, Walter Webb, attempted suicide, was sentenced to twelve hours’ imprisonment, accused having been in gaol five months awaiting trial. W. H. Nelly, the Salvationist assistant connty clerk for Grey, charged with larceny and embezzlement, pleaded guilty, and was sentenced to eighteen months’imprisonment. The civil case Brien v, Inangabna County Council, a claim for LSOO general and LSO special damages for an accident through a culvert breaking, then came on. His Honor struck out the LSOO general damages for loss of the child, saying it was against Lord Campbell’s Act. The jury found a verdict for L 32 special damages. The judge only allowed costa as if brought In the R.M. Court at Recfton, which he said was the proper Court. At the Supreme Court, Auckland, the case of Smith v. Gleeson, an action for LI,OOO damages for alleged assault, was heard yesterday. The defendant is proprietor of the City Hotel, and it is alleged that on the 18th December last, when plaintiff, a plumber, went to collect an account, some words passed between the two men, and Gleeson knocked Smith down some steps into the street, breaking his leg. The jury returned s verdict for the plaintiff for L 250 and costs.
