ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
James Naysmith, a well-known resident of Beefton, was drowned to-day, Mr J. C. Todd, a saloon passenger, died suddenly on board the Takapnna daring the voyage from Onehunga to New Plymouth. He appeared to be in very indifferent health when he joined the eteamer.
A man named Enoch George Borrow died suddenly at Glikin’s wool works, Styx (Canterbury) on Monday night. When he was found lying dead yesterday morning bis hands werq full of wool, and he had evidently died while working. The body of Thomas P. Michelle, bnried by the collapse of a ooal shaft, was recovered by the rescue party yesterday afternoon. The body was in an erect position, leading to the conclusion that the deceased was overwhelmed, and the life crashed ont of him before he had time to recover from the terrible state of consternation into which he was thrown by the momentary expectation of the oroel death which, no doubt, be instinctively realised there wuu no escape from. He had signalled the danger to his mates above, and it it just possible that even in the act of doing so the crash came and wedged him in erect and looking upwards fas the release thatoame only nhea all was over, Michelle, who has been nearly thirty years In the district, and was generally respected, leaves a wife and ten, children.
