THE COLONIAL PRIZE-FIRING MEETING.
TRENTHAM, Maboh 16.
Again there is magnificent weather—a bright sun without wind. Strenuous efforts will be made this year to send a strong New Zealand shooting team to the Victoria and New South Wales Association meetings in October, with a view to securing a return visit, whiob would tend to give greater interest in the meeting in New Zealand.
At present it is doubtful whether the Auckland Ammunition Company’s Match will come off, as the company have intimated a desire to give their prize money (L 35) In ammunition instead of cash. It is understood that at the annual meeting of members to morrow night a proposal will be made to change the conditions on which ties in the prize-list are worked. Now ties are decided on range totals, value of hits, or shots in inverse order; and the proposal is that ties should divide the money when the value of the prize exceeds LI.
In the Ladies’ Matoh some excellent shooting was made, and Purnell and Jack each scored eight bnlis-eyes, one inner, and one magpie, but the former won first money having made the best hits, counting from the finish. The position of the men in the aggregates was not much affected by this match, as first, second, third, and fifth men on the list each made 43, but Purnell rose with 47, thus pulling four on each of the others. Robllliard, Burns, and Randall fell away, while Kuohen, Ross, Taylor, W. Baljingef, aqd 4. improved their positions a pqipt or two. Lipißj’ Match. Ten shots at 300 yards.
