LAND BOARD.

The weekly meeting of the Land Board, iheld to-day, was attended by Commissioners Maitland (in tho chair), Danoan, Dallas, Clark, and M'Kerrow. The Board were rcqussted to decide as to how section 44, block 1, Highlay, formerly held under agricultural lease by T. Leahy, should ba opened for sale.—Recommended for notification at 15a per acre.

J. Wright applied for a portion of the quarry reserve, section 8, block 8, Catlins, upon which to build his house, as the section be held under deferred payments (section 5, block 8) was under water last flood.—Referred to the Clutha Council to say if the portion of the reserve can be out off as requested. A memo, was received from the Government respecting the mining reserve at Dunback, a grazing right over which is at E resent held by J. E. Glover,—The Board avlng made full inqul.y from the Stock Department, and finding that the report as to the destruction of rabbits is satisfactory, cannot see their way to alter the present arrangement. The Minister of Lands requested that

the runs not Bold at the late sale—viz, 201, 206 d, 226b, 262, and 493-be notified as open for application at upaet pricei.—To be advertised for thirty days as open for application, v.

Mr \V. L, Bimpsqn, on behalf of Mrs M. Maopherson, appjied for A lease or somo right to owupy a portion of the coal reserve m block 2, Teviot.—DeollnerJ. A letter was received from the Government instructing that in cases of transfers of pastoral licenses, either by way of mortgage or otherwise, it is seen that the terms of sections 177,178, and 179 of the Land Aot, 1885, are carried out.—Noted. The Receiver of Land Revenue forwarded a letter from A. Purvis, suggesting that he be allowed thrW months to pay rent on perpjetuaMease seotions 2 and 3, block '2, Pooiburn.—Consideration was deferred.

Alice Blakely applied for a grazing right over seotions 11 and 21, block 5, Maniototo, on the usual conditions.—Consideration deferred for information as to reason section was not offered for sale.

The Board considered the request by the Government that the islands in the Waitaki River, from its month to the Kurow River, be leased, also applications by the following for certain of the islands:—M. Watt, F. Stringer, R. M'Nair, A. Forbes, A. Aitkenhead, W. Downey, G. Paterson, J. Duncan, and A. Bell. The Waitaki and Waimate Acclimatisation Sooiety requested that If the Islands were dealt with they be put up to public auction, in order that the sooiety may have an opportunity (if so desirous) of aoquiring them for the protection of acclimatised fish.—Consideration deferred, the Chief Commissioner in the meantime to communicate with the Canterbury Commissioners of Crown Lands on the subject. The Board considered the oases of the following perpetual leasees, who were given three months to pay up arrears and have not done bo :—J. T. Geddes, seotions 10 and 11, block 3, Maniototo ; R. L Geddes, section 4, block 4, Maniototo.—Leases forfeited for non-payment of rent, ranger to make valuation.

Ranger Hughan reported on complaint made by Mr C. Martin, for J. E. Wade, licensee of section 3, block 4, Kurow, under pastoral license, for treating the same as an agricultural holding,—Received. Mr C. Martin, for 0. Smith, lessee of pastoral run 140b, applied for the consent of the Board to his eoleoting and occupying 150 acres under section 185 of the Land Aot, 1885.—1t was resolved to request a proper tracing.

J. Carle, who on February 10 last was given a month to pay all arrears on perpetualbeotion 19, block 2, Budle, forwarded a half year's rent, and requested a further extension of time to pay the balance.—The Board resolved to forfeit within a mouth if the arrears were not paid up. Messrs Kenyon and Hoskirtg, on bt half of D. M'Cready, applied for an agricultural leaao of a grazing right over the portions of sections 14 and 15, block 5, Kyeburn, recently resumed by the Crotvn for miuuig purposes.—To stand over until matters iu connection with resumption arc completed. The followingapplicatioos were approved : —For rural land on perpetual lease: A. Muir, section 7, block 6, Danback ; P. Gifford, section 2, block 11, do ; J. Murray, seotion 1, block 11, do; J. Nevill, section 12, block 3, Poolburu; U. Brown, sections 45 to 47, and 64 and 80, block 1 Blackstooe. To transfer perpetual leases : J. Warwuod to Mrs E. R. Chalmers, section 2, block 8, Kurow. For village eettlement land on deferred payments: T. Murcott, section 133, block 1, Otepopo. For rural land on deferred payments : J. Oxenboulds, section 15, block 9, Waitahuaa West. For rural Und for cash : P. Law, eection 16, block 9, Matiiototo; P. J. Green, section 17, block 13, Mauiituto. Mr C. Martin, on behalf of Mrs M'Kay, applied to withdraw her application for section C, block 6, Hyde Town, and requested a refund of the half-year's rent and L7O valuation for improvements paid by her —To stand over for a week.

Green's application to be allowed to surrender perpetual lease of section IS, block 13, Maniototo, was accepted, the rent having been paid up to the 30th June nest.
