The Auatrian delegates are supporting proposals brought forward by Great Britain to allow British vessels bound for British ports unimpeded passage through the Suez Canal. The French delegates are trying to get the proposals modified. MADRID, January 10. A gang of Anarchists armed with fowling pieces attacked the town of Xeres, in the sooth of Spain, and began to pillage It. A serious fight ensued, in which three were killed and twenty wonnded before the cavalry, who had come up, succeeded in dispersing the band, thirty of whom were captured.
LONDON, January 10. The secretary of the Portsea Island Building Society is a defaulter. His accounts show a deficiency of L 66,000.
THE MARKETS. LONDON, January 10. (Received January 11,1892, at 11.80 a.m.) Tallow; Medium mutton, 25s 9d; beef, 24?. The English wheat market shows a general decline of 6d.
