VOLUNTEER INTELLIGENCE

Tho annual meeting of the Dunedin Engi neer Volunteers was held at the Garrison Hall on Friday evening last, there being a large number of members present. The report and balance-ghcct were adopted, and committees for the forthcoming year elected as follows General committee—Captain Beal, Lieutenants. May and Barclay, Ser-geant-major Henry, Corporals Ruesell, Love, and Bart, Engineers Johnson, Simson, and W. Thomson; finance committee The officers, Sergeant Brodie, and Corporal Bryant; secretary, Lieutenant Barclay (reelected) ; treasurer, Captain Beal (reelected). Tho Shooting Committee were reelected to serve until the end of the shooting season, It was intimated that for the present year medals were offered for general knowledge in each of the squads, and also for good attendance at parades. The company have secured the lease of a piece of Harbor Board ground, which it is proposed to enclose and make suitable for an instruction ground, in which the laying oat and connecting of mines, running out of field telegraph and telephone wires, and other work can he gone through. The members of B Battery fired tho first competition for the battery’s belt at Pelichet Bay range on Friday morning at five o’clock. The ranges were 200, 300, and 500 yards; seven shots at each.
