LAND BOARD.
The naual weekly sitting of the Land Board was hold this morning; present— Messrs J. P. Maitland (chief commissioner), H. Clark, W. Dallas, and A. M'Kerrow.
A letter was received from the Hon, J. M’Kenzie, Minister of Lands, intimating that Mr Henry Clark had been reappointed a member of the Board.
Mr Adam Plonnis applied for a grazing right over gravel reserve adjoining section 3, block 5, Kurow district, on condition of his keeping down the rabbits.—Referred to Chief Commissioner to arrange. Mr William Fletcher, occupier of section 122, block 111, Shotover district, wrote stating that access to his section had been completely cut off by floods, and be requested the Board to help him in the matter. —lt was resolved that the Board had no power to assist the applicant in the direction indicated.
Messrs Donald Reid and Co. wrote stating that they bad paid arrears dne by John Brown on section 1, block 11, Maniototo district, and they requested that the resolution forfeiting the section be rescinded.— Resolution of forfeiture rescinded. The Receiver of Land Revenue reported that Mr William M'Kay, jun., section 8, block 15, Greenvale district, and John Brnhns, 'section 9, block 3, Rock and Pillar district, deferred-payment licensees, whose licenses were forfeited on the 30th nit. for non-payment of arrears, had now paid up, and the Board were requested to consider recision of forfeiture. —Forfeiture rescinded. The following applications for village special settlement land on perpetual lease wore approved :—A. D. Mackenzie, section 2, block 4, Tautukn district; and 6. D. Mackenzie, section 1, block 4, same district. Mr Thomas Bradford applied for a renewal of his license to occupy section 87, block 2, Waikonaiti district.—Renewal granted for seven years on same terms as before. The Chief Inspector of Stock called the Board’s attention to the outlay incurred by his department in keeping down the rabbits on the unsold land in blocks 3 and 8, Benger district, and recommended that the land be dealt with in some way. Referred to Ranger Hoghan to report. Thirty-eight cattle-owners and residents at Wetherstones and Tnapeka East having petitioned with regard to the 6,400 acres in Tuapeka East district reserved as a commonage, the same was forwarded by the Minister of Lands for the consideration of the Board. The petitioners stated that the commonage was overran with sheep, and requested that the Ranger be sent up to imponnd sheep trespassing, and further asked that a portion of the reserve be set aside as a grazing ground for big cattle. A letter was also received from Mr N. Gooday, acting on behalf of the petitioners.—lt was resolved that, with reference to the petition referred to the Board as to the County Gonnoil’s proposed mode of dealing with what was known as the Gabriels - Wetherstone commonage, that the County Council be requested to defer taking further action in the matter In the meantime, as the Board thought it desirable to bold a conference with the Connell and the petitioners with the view of some satisfactory arrangement being arrived at.
