ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES
In connection with the body of the swagger found in the harbor at Invercargill yesterday, a swag bad been washed ashore near the jetty on the previous day. The body has been identified by two business men as that el Andrew Miller, who at one time had an interest in * business in Invercargili and afterwards a store atColao Bay, near Rfverton; but who seems to have fallen Into very poor circumstances. Me was about thirty-fire years old, and a native of land.The body of Frederick Newman, manager of tbe.Otakeho Qairy Factory, Manaia, missing for a fortnight, was found on Saturday hanging in a room attached to the factory. At the inquest a verdict was
returned of " BuMde . while temporarily insane." A paper was found, dated October last, stating that he knew he should go mad and kill himself Nine day. Keogh died suddenly at Vanghan's Hotel,. Mokihinui,, yesterday afternoon. An inquest It to be held. A man named Caldwell, working at the, coal staiths, Westport, was knooked down by an empty truok. He fell across the up line of raile, and narrowly escaped being run aver fay the loaded trucks coming up the i£ oUne. He was rescued in the nick of time by another workman. Caldwell was cut over the temple and back, but his injuries are slight. There were two admissioni to the hospital to-day. William Telfer was brought up from Port Chalmers, where he had been repairing* gasometer, and fell off the ladder, a distance of lift. He was bruised about the back. Robert Stewart was received into the hospital in the afternoon suffering from 1 bruises all over the body. He was bringing Into town, a large waggon-load of timber from the West Taieri, when he fell off the dray on to tome metal. Dr Copland attended to both oases. CHBIBTCHURCH, August 11. Fred Burke, a boy, died suddenly at his mother's residence yesterday. At the inquest a verdict of " Death caused by peritonitis " was returned.
