CITY COUNCIL.
A special meeting of the City Counoil was held at midday to-day, the members attending being His Worship the Mayor, Crs Solomon, Chapman, Toomey, Baynes, hardy, and Gourley. Bis Wobship mentioned that is was necessary that the business should be completed and be placed in the hands of the Colonial Seoretary by the 30th inst. Cr Gocblby moved, and Cr Hardy seconded, the adoption of the balance-sheet, and an authorisation to the mayor to sign the same as correct.—Carried. Cr Hardy drew attention to the fact that next Thursday was fixed for the unveiling of the Macandrew memorial, and it would be only graceful on the part of the members of the Corporation to attend. Having known the late Mr Maoandrew so well he hoped that all members would make it convenient to attend. His Woßsmr said the matter had his entire sympathy. Cr Solomon thought that the persons in whose hands the matter was could send invitations if they desired councillors' attendance. Cr Gourley considered that in a oase where it was a mark of respect, as in the present instance, they should not wait for a formal invitation.—(Hear, hear.) The matter then dropped and the meeting terminated.
