IMPROVING THE OCTAGON.
TO THB XDITOB, Sir, —I learn with pleasure that the collectors for the Octagon improvement fund are meeting with fair succesr. On looking at the plans I notice that the reserve is to be fenced off in four sections. Would you allow me to suggest to the Committee who have this matter in hand that, as one using the centre path down Stuart street daily, I think it would be much better to close that path up, I have spoken to several who use it as often as myself, and all are agreed they would rather go round than see the Octagon permanently improved in the manner proposed ; and it is believed that no obstacle would be thrown in the way of carrying out tbe suggestion—viz , to fence it off in two sections only, making provision for any monument th it i: may be thought fit to erect in future. Pernaps the Amenities Society would take ths.-aiaticr into their consideration. —I am, etc.. Citizen. Dunedin, May 30. [ I'tie proposal is certainly worthy of conaiaerdtion.—Ed. E.S ]
