SCHOOL COMMITTEES.

Balclutha.— For the position of chairman Messrs John Dunne and D. Stewart were proposed, the first-named being eleoted. Palmerston.— Mr J. Arkle was appointed chairman, and Mr 0. Crump seoretary and treasurer, Mr Robertson moved—"That the Education Board be requested to take stepß to get the School Committee Elections Act amended, by providing that phe ballot papers be not destroyed, say, for one week after the eleotion, with a view of a scrutiny being held if neoessary." Mr Scott, as an amendment, moved—"That the request be made to the Minister of Education, and in case of an appeal not being sustained, that a penalty of WO be provided for." The amendment wasflarried.—The visiting committee* were appointed as follow:—Messrs Gowand Chapman for May; Messrs Soott and Kitchen for June; Messrs Arkle, Ror bertson, and M'Donald for July,—A vote of thanks was aooorded to the trustees of the Palmerston Debating Society for donation in aid of the school funds.—Mr Robertson moved—" That the Minister of Justice be respectfully asked to make full inquiry into the aotions of one' local J. P. at the reoent sohool eleotion, aa the spirit of the Act was entirely set aside, with the view, if the charges are proved, of having the J.P, roll purged."
