CATCHES OF FISH.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —I am afraid that the Chatham Islands champion fish liar ha 3 got the laugh at you this time. I had not heard of that particular haul of fish, but I have a letter before me describing a haul of 480 k&whai during an evening. The joke is that, instead of catching the fish with a line, as you would lead your readers to suppose, they are caught with a large fisherman's net in the salt-water lake in the main island. Thi? said lake abounds with all the fish mentioned, and up till the end of last year was only fished occasionally by the Maoris ; but the champion fish liar gat a large net down, with the results published by you. I have seen several letters describing tremendous catches of fish taken during the eveniugs after work. Besides the fish already j mentioned, there are moki, garfish, flounders, and eels in enormous quantities.—l am, etc., F.N.H. Dunedin, April 29.
